I think that it is an honor to receive a care package from you and your husband who is a Vietnam Veteran. I always enjoy being able to speak with Veterans from any war. It is a great learning experience in my eyes. We have a program here called United Through Reading. I don't know if you have heard about it, but it allows soldiers to be video taped reading books for their children and the videos are sent back to the states as DVD's and our kids at home can see us reading to them. Please tell your husband that I and our section thank him for his tours he did in Vietnam. Thank you both for your support, love, and time you take to put these packages together for me and my fellow soldiers here in Afghanistan and Iraq.

SF wrote: You do not know me, but you recently sent a package to one of my troopers here in Afghanistan, and I wanted to take the time to thank you for doing such a thoughtful thing for him. He is a great trooper, and you picked a good kid to do that for. He was very happy, and shared the contents with the others in my shop. We were allowed to read the nice note that you sent, and I wanted to personally thank you for the package. I also wanted to take the time to thank your husband for his service to our country during a very difficult time for soldiers. I was born in 1970, so I still remember vividly the images on the TV as a child of the soldiers. My Grandfather landed at Normandy on D-Day, so soldiers from both generations have always been my heroes. I can only hope to uphold the legacy of service and sacrifice that so many have made before me. Please tell your husband that regardless of the socio-political situation at the time, today's generation of soldier understands the depth of the sacrifice that soldiers made during the Vietnam war, and continue to make when they come home.

GL wrote: Letter #1 I was just writing to thank you and your husband and everyone else involved in your Gifts From Home Program. All of the service members greatly appreciate the packages that they receive from all of the groups like yours but often don't get a chance to thank everyone but get side tracked because of the pace of things over here. It really does make a difference to us all, especially the members who are posted in remote locations. Thank you all again.
Letter # 2 from GL. I just received another package today and had a chance to reply, so I just wanted to write and say thank you again. We really do appreciate all that you and groups like yours do for us over here. As far as what to send, I'll tell you from experience that in the more remote camps toothpaste and other such personal hygiene items is greatly appreciated. Foot powder is one thing I don't see too often that we could use. Insect repellent in another, not flea collars though as there has been memos put out not to use them! We appreciate anything you can think of to send, greatly. I'll keep listening for stuff and let you know. Thank you again.
MM wrote: He um I guess someone else you have already sent gifts to here cuz I found a letter from you and read it and decided to respond back. You had mentioned you had some child gifts. Children come around all the time and the extra gifts would help a lot. I'll write a longer letter later when I get a little more time and i'm not so tired lol cuz I've been up all night. Thanks for all the support.

It is very evident that you and your community support the troops and love this country! Your efforts in the care packages we received certainly should be commended! Your care package had many comfort items that I will use and enjoy that they do not have here in the PX. I particularly liked the star from the American flag. I enjoyed everything in my care package, as did everyone in the unit! Again I would like to express my sincere appreciation! All of your time, money, and effort spent in sending us care packages, is a worthy and honorable demonstration of your concern for the troops and your patriotism to this great country! God Bless America
JG wrote: Thank you so much for the care package that arrived yesterday. It really means a lot that you spend your time and resources to make this happen. More importantly, I would like to thank you for bringing a smile and some sun shine the the soldiers. The list of volunteers is tremendous but somebody has to step up and coordinate the effort. A good idea doesn't become an act until someone makes it happen. Thank you for making it happen. And it does make a difference. I really appreciat the STAR from old Glory. What a terrific idea to still bring service to a symbol that has already served. I wish I would have thought of it. I intend to carry on that tradition when I return. You two are truly Star's in my heart. Bless you both.
